ABOUT NATURAL MOVEMENT PSYCHOTHERAPY

Natural Movement Psychotherapy offers a holistic and innovative approach to psychotherapy through somatic (body-based) techniques. The mission is to empower individuals on their journey towards emotional well-being and personal growth. The somatic psychotherapy approach focuses on utilizing body awareness and movement as powerful tools for healing from a range of mental health challenges including anxiety, depression, traumatic experiences, life transitions, relationship issues, family discord, and the pursuit of personal empowerment.

THE APPROACH

Immediate Symptom Relief:
Silvan understands the urgency of addressing immediate symptoms that affect daily life. He provides practical tools and techniques to help manage anxiety, depression, and other challenging emotions. Through tailored strategies, clients will learn to navigate difficulties in real-time while cultivating emotional resilience.
Addressing Root Causes:
Beyond symptom management, Silvan's approach delves into the underlying causes of discontent. He works collaboratively with clients to explore and address these root causes, fostering lasting transformation and growth. We'll do this work together and one step at a time.
Community Connection:
Healing is not limited to the therapy room. Silvan emphasizes the importance of building strong connections outside of therapy sessions. The community-focused approach encourages individuals to establish supportive relationships that contribute to their overall well-being.

SILVAN ERB-SUMMERS
MA, LPC, R-DMT

A master of arts (MA) in Somatic Counseling Psychology and Dance/Movement Therapy from Naropa University as well as advanced trainings in meditation, movement integration, nervous system rebalancing, and trauma therapy all contribute to my current work. Teaching the creative process in a  past career as a visual arts educator informs my collaborative approach to therapy. When employed as an in-home dance/movement therapist for children with special needs: they taught me how to have more fun and about the cumulative power of incremental change. Additionally, decades of mindfulness training and a year of meditation retreat infuse my practice. I also owe a great deal of knowledge of contemplative psychotherapy to my time as a team counselor and group facilitator for people working with extreme mental states at Windhorse Community Services.

As a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and Registered Dance/Movement Therapist (R-DMT), I serve individuals, couples, & adult families at my office in Boulder. I also offer HIPPA secure video sessions for people living anywhere in Colorado.

The letters after my name inform my work, but I’ve learned just as much from my own personal healing journey in individual and couples therapy. I spent years searching for support in various philosophies, religions, and alternative healing modalities but what helped me the most was professional meditation instruction and working with a skilled somatic and dance/movement psychotherapist. The meditation instruction and practice taught me how to observe my mind and feel my heart; and the work with my therapist was the most holistic healing experience I have ever had. She helped me unravel childhood trauma and depression feel that I was not alone in my struggles and trust that I had a lot to offer the world. While working with her, it became clear to me that I wanted to spend the rest of my life helping people in a similar way.

Outside of my therapy practice, I enjoy hiking and camping with my partner and our one year old pup. I also teach recreational tree climbing (think arborist without the chainsaw). Mountain biking, cross country skiing, & free form dance are some of my other passions. I also love geeking out on pretty much anything related to visual art and design.
